A MUSICAL FRIENDSHIP

Inspired by Johannes Voorhout’s 1674 painting ‘Allegory of Friendship’ , Hathor Consort brings to life a world of musical friendship, exchange and shared creativity. The painting portrays Johann Adam Reincken, Dieterich Buxtehude and Johann Theile making music together, alongside a fourth musician whose identity remains uncertain. With a touch of poetic license, Hathor Consort imagines this figure as Philipp Heinrich Erlebach. At a time when Hamburg offered refuge from the turmoil of war and flourished as a vibrant musical center, these musicians formed part of a remarkable creative community. Centered around the song collection ‘Harmonic Freude musikalischer Freunde’, the program evokes this rich musical world, shaped by friendship and a shared pursuit of beauty.
